Why does it need to be a laser print?
Laser printers use something called toner (microscopic granules of black plastic) instead of ink. The particles are arranged on the paper using static electricity, the paper is then heated to melt the toner and fuse it to the paper. If the print is ever heated to the same sort of temperatures again then the particles will melt, becoming a glue-like substance that your foil will stick to. Any parts of the paper that are printed in black will be covered with foil, whereas any areas of the paper that don't contain toner will remain untouched.
.
What's the process?
- Order your laser printing online.
- Use your hot foil sheet or roll to cover the printed image (black areas necessary only).
- Cover with a thin sheet of plain paper and run through your laminator.
What sort of images can I hot foil?
We would suggest your artwork is true black and white (no greys or colours). Bold text or illustrations tend to work best.
